On 30 June سائر said he expected to moor at الجانب الاخر at 0800 Thursday 8 July. This refers to a foreign visit. Today we caught a message service saying he was at latitude 3557.5N. He's on a long trip and we will go along.
6 July / سائر won't tell us who he is or where he is or where he is going so we will guess: ENS Sharm El Sheikh F901 in the Atlantic Ocean heading for Germany to escort a new frigate or submarine back to Alexandria. We will know soon enough but will we ever know what دون is doing off the coast of Eritrea?
8 July / Now we know it will be submarine S44. It will probably transit the Kiel Canal and be met on the other side by سائر.
12 July / S44 has made his first appearance on the airwaves using hull number as call sign. He tells us he is at 5420.4N00956.3E at 1430Z, which puts him in the Kiel Canal. We hope he asks سائر who he is when they meet because we still don't know ourselves. This time around it appears that غنيس is Submarine Brigade Command. Also joining the conversation are غداء who is still 3d July Naval Base at Gargoub, واحد who is still Destroyer Brigade Command, and غزاب who we now think might be شعبة العمليات Naval Operations Dept.
17 July / S44 has turned off his AIS transponder and is using a call sign that sounds like كشيحة.
They are currently off the northwest corner of Spain.
20 July / Supply ship مذكور is heading west for a rendezvous in the central Mediterranean. We also note that غداء is no longer 3d July Naval Base. It now is the call sign for Ra's At Tin Naval Base at Alexandria.
21 July / Supply ship مذكور is ENS Shalatin 230. Operations has asked for an estimate of when sub and escort will exit the Strait of Gibraltar. They are going slower than we expected.
25 July / Today in message service سائر spelled MEKO. We don't know if a new frigate requires an escort to get from Germany to Egypt. If it sails alone without the modem we will have a lot to listen to.
26 July / S44 has turned his AIS transponder on and position at 0821Z is 37.93847 N / 11.13227 E heading 147 speed 9. At 0807Z on 10900khz ENS Shalatin sent his position to S44 at 3659.6N / 01211.6E heading 295 speed 10.5. So they are 60 miles apart with a closing speed of 20 knots.
27 July / At 0748Z on 10519khz ENS Shalatin sent his position as 3523.3N / 01410.4E or south of Malta. If anyone in the vicinity has the ability to monitor VHF/UHF, try 125 and 330mhz.
30 July / At 2211Z on 6666khz سائر informed ALEX they will be at the base tomorrow at 1800 local.
31 July / 8500khz seems to be the preferred frequency for Submarine Brigade Command. S44 wants to talk to someone on S41.
2 August / An official french source confirms the escort was an Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate but it was the Alexandria F911.
